Thursday 26th November proved to be an excellent night for St Thomas More pupil Charlotte Burkinshaw. Charlotte aged 16 was nominated back in October for sports Person of the Year (female) secondary 11-16 award at the Warwickshire School Sports awards. The prestigious evening took place at the Ricoh Arena. It is an evening to recognise and celebrate the sporting achievements of young people in a vast variety of sports across the region.
The evening began at 6.15 with drinks on arrival and a chance to look at the hall of fame which displayed all the young people who had been nominated with a brief history of their sporting achievements.
Host for the evening was David Moorcroft OBE. He was assisted throughout the evening by various other local sporting talents including, Dion Dublin, footballer, Sara MCGreavy athlete and Nigel Murray Olympic gold medallist in Beijing in Boccia
Charlotte’s category was near the end of the evening after an impressive range of talent had been rewarded, from primary school age up to age 16.

Charlotte collected a beautifully engraved glass trophy to mark her success along with a certificate from Warwickshire School Sport Partnership. It was a very proud moment for her and recognition for all the long hours of training and commitment she has put in over her time in martial arts. She currently trains at the Martial Arts Academy in Bedworth
