Brief History of Joshua Owen
Joshua started martial arts at the age of 8 in the Little Tigers at Siu Lum Kune. Due to his keenness, he completed this course in seven months and then moved up into the Kung Fu. Joshua stated that he was obsessed with Kung Fu and so would train everyday coming to all the various classes including the kickboxing. His aim was to be the best he could be, gaining as much knowledge as possible to achieve this. He quickly progressed through the grades gaining several awards for commitment and dedication and best newcomer. From 2017, Joshua also entered several inter-club competitions winning trophies for Forms and weapons.
Joshua was accomplished at the forms and weapons but lacked spirit in his sparring. Therefore, he was encouraged by his Sifu, Paul Burkinshaw to attend more kickboxing classes to improve on his fighting abilities. From 2018, he became more involved with helping teach and so attended several coaching courses to aid him with this. He continued to progress through the grades achieving his Black sash in Kung Fu in July 2021.
This same year, because of his impressive achievements and his commitment, Joshua was awarded a trophy for being Student of the Year. In 2022, he achieved his 1st Degree in Kung Fu and after another coaching course became an Assistant Instructor.
Joshua continued to advance within the kickboxing and as he matured his confidence and fighting skills also improved. He was also coaching within these classes helping the other students achieve the skills and confidence that he had achieved though his hard work. In March 2023, Joshua achieved his Black sash in Siu Lum Kune Kickboxing.
