Inter-club Fund Raising Event

Last summer at Exhall we held an inter-club fund raising competition. 8 teams entered this competition from the clubs at Bedworth, Nuneaton, Coventry, Bulkington and Meriden. Each team put up a £50 entry fee towards the prize money. The days events included penalty shoot out, basket ball shoot out, highest score with six darts, tug of war, obstacle race, etc.

Each team was tasked to raise sponsorship money for the association and charity, which also then contributed towards extra points for the day’s competition. The staff at the community centre provided the catering with excellent burgers and drinks. Bar sales went really well due to the hot sunny weather (and it was a Sunday afternoon.)

All events went well with real competition in the racing events and the penalty shoot-out, but the highlight of the day had to be the team tug of war. This event turned out to be a battle between Bedworth and Nuneaton. These two teams eventually met in the final, which turned into a real test of endurance as both teams were evenly matched. After a period of holding each other at bay, cheers and support from the spectators egged both teams on for an extreme burst to decide the issue. As both teams applied more pressure the rope suddenly snapped sending all to the floor with huge cheers and laughing from everyone.

After a close run event between Nuneaton Kung Fu and Bedworth Kickboxing, the Kickboxing won the day by a few points. The £400 entry fee prize money was then awarded to the Kickboxing team a few weeks later when all the sponsor money had been collected in.

Presenting Cheque To Member Of ECMO Team

Total money raised was £1340. £750 was donated to the ECMO department at Glenfield Hospital in Liecester. This is a specialised department dealing with lung injuries that would normally be beyond normal treatment. This type of treatment in on test trails within the U.K and so has to rely on donations etc to fund this development. (This is the department that treated me after my car accident in March 2000.) The remaining £590 was put towards the £780 for buying another 10 mats to complete the floor area at Exhall, Bedworth.

Many, many thanks to all who took part, supported and helped out on the day.
