Building New
George Street Academy

We would like to extend our appreciation to all those involved in helping
us in creating this most important facility.

Although the main training hall has now been completed, there is still the out door training area to do.

We have run out of money and are looking for sponsorship, can you help?

During January we made a start on clearing the site at the rear of the academy and cleaning some of the bricks from the old walls. Unfortunately due to time restraints we were unable to complete these jobs before the builder (Stuart Morrow) was going to start. Luckily a team of lads from the a resalvage company came in straight away and cleared all the bricks within a few days.

The builders then started by leveling the site with a bulldozer before marking out the new plot.

On Monday 5th February trenches were started to be dug out for the new foundations and concrete poured in. Even when the snow came on the Thursday, Stuart and his lads still kept working on through it.

By the Friday of that week these were finished and the block work for the foundations was started. (this was due to the ground level going down hill.)

By Tueday 13th February all the block work for the foundations was finished, and the builders then started laying the blue bricks for the outside foundation wall that would be seen due to the fall away of the ground.

Thursday 15th February and the builders started to fill the cavities between the block work / blue bricks of the foundations with concrete. Pipes and tubing was then laid for the water and electrical supplies.

Friday 16th, and stone was compacted around the foundations and then on the floor area of the building.

As the stone was laid in around the floor area drainage pipes were laid and connected to the main sewerage man-hole. Once the internal floor area had been built up and compacted with stone, insulation was then laid, then a water-proof membrain and finally the concrete was laid in and leveled.

By Friday 2nd March, much of the internal perimeter block work walls have been set out, giving a rough impression of the size of the new academy.

By Thursday 8th March, all block work at floor level has been built up to approxiamately 2 metres high. This is now the final layout of the ground floor, showing where toilets and stairways will be etc.

Thursday afternoon, and the high spec insulation is fixed to the block work.

Friday morning and the exterior brick work is now started.

By Friday 23rd March all block work has now been built upto the first floor height, which in the main hall is approxiamately 3metres. Exterior brick work is just short of this, but now gives a good indication of the final appearance of the building, showing windows and doorways at ground level.

Monday 26th March and the roofing joists were fitted in the rear shower block area.
